Character Animator

Spirit Bomb is a new media studio and record label, producing virtual characters with a focus on music and narrative content, across digital platforms and IRL. Our studio has worked with artists ranging from The Weeknd to Flying Lotus to Kendrick Lamar, creating immersive and engaging audio- visual experiences for live events and digital media. We see many opportunities in the virtual artist space to envision new experiences for fans, and to create opportunities for musicians and visual artists.

As a Character Animator at Spirit Bomb, you will help bring our virtual characters to life by creating short-form character animation content with a focus on cinematic storytelling. You will work closely with our production and creative team to bring initial concepts to life while being an integral role in the content development pipeline.

Responsibilities

●  Create short-form character animation sequences for handoff to environmental and FX teams.

●  Direct, perform, and clean up motion capture shoots.

●  Test, break, and provide feedback on character rigs during development.

●  Refine existing and future character designs for animation, through constructive feedback and

technical and artistic solutions.

Required Qualifications

●  Minimum of 3 years work experience in gaming, film/TV, or related industry.

●  Substantial portfolio of work demonstrating character-based animation.

●  Strong foundation in animation principles, the ability to reinforce storytelling through memorable

performances, and aptitude in a variety of animation styles.

●  Ability to work in Maya and implement animations correctly in our Unreal engine pipeline, as well

as a thorough knowledge of Maya rigging and animation tools.

●  An eye for animation, body movement, and analysis across different character types.

●  Familiarity with implementing animations in Unreal Engine.

●  Experience using motion capture technology such as Rokoko Studio or similar.

●  Ability to take initiative and solve problems as they arise.

●  Ability to work within tight deadlines, adapt to different workflows, and work within a lean startup

team environment to achieve company-wide goals.

Preferred Qualifications:

●  Fluent in Unreal Engine (familiarity working with Blueprints and creating custom setups as needed for our characters).

●  Scripting, and helping build tools to improve the efficiency of our pipeline.

●  Understanding workflow between real time game engines to pre-rendered VFX.

●  Familiarity with Zbrush, for making small edits or changes to characters as needed.

●  Knowledge of rigging and weight-painting is a nice-to-have

Technical FX Artist

As a
Technical / FX Artist at Spirit Bomb, you will help build tools and systems to be utilized in video and interactive content development. Your contributions will integrate with the larger content team to bring our characters’ stories and personas to life.

Responsibilities

●  Program shaders, procedural systems, cinematics, and characters in Unreal Engine.

●  Build custom tools and scenes for video and interactive content in Unreal Engine.

●  Work between all departments (pre-production, environment, characters) on shared technology

●  Support the content team in debugging and optimization of scenes.

●  Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed

Required Qualifications:

●  3+ years work experience working in Unreal Engine and/or Substantial portfolio of work demonstrating

●  Strong artistic background and content development skills such as, texturing lighting, vfx, or any other relevant areas.

●  Experience using motion capture technology such as Rokoko Studio or similar.

●  Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision

●  Ability to work within tight deadlines, adapt to different workflows, and work within a lean startup

team environment to achieve company-wide goals.

Preferred Qualifications:

●  Experience with Niagra

●  Scripting, and helping build tools to improve the efficiency of our pipeline.

●  Understanding workflow between real time game engines to pre-rendered VFX.

●  Experience with other 3D apps such as Houdini, Blender, Maya, etc.

●  Experience with Character Animation

Environment Unreal Generalist [old/hidden]

As an Environment Artist / Unreal Generalist at Spirit Bomb, you will help build the worlds our virtual artists live in. You will work closely with our creative team to bring story concepts to life, and play a central role in the content development pipeline.

Responsibilities:

●  Source and/or create models, and assemble scenes for both architectural and organic environments in Unreal Engine.

●  Integrate final character animation and/or custom built FX into scenes.

●  Build cinematic lighting and compose camera moves through scenes.

●  Additional environmental or generalist responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Required Qualifications:

●  3+ years experience in gaming, film/TV, or related industry modeling environments using UE.

●  Substantial portfolio of work demonstrating environment design in Unreal Engine.

●  Strong foundation in working with Sequencer, Blueprints, and creating custom setups in UE.

●  Knowledge of modeling, UV mapping, and texturing assets for UE and cinematics in 3D app of

choice.

●  Strong conceptual knowledge of design principles, real-world lighting, color theory, and

composition.

●  Ability to take initiative and solve problems as they arise.

●  Ability to work within tight deadlines, adapt to different workflows, and work within a lean startup

team environment to achieve company-wide goals.

Preferred Qualifications:

●  Knowledge of a sculpting application such as Zbrush or similar.

●  Substance Painter / PBR Texturing workflow experience.

●  Scripting, and helping build tools to make pipeline for a small team more efficient.

Environment Unreal Artist

Job Title: Environment Unreal Artist

Required: Bachelor’s in Entertainment Design, or similar & 24 months experience in design of digital environments and modeling in Unreal Engine. In lieu employer will accept a Master’s degree in Entertainment Design, or similar.  Special Requirements: Must have demonstrated proficient knowledge of: Unity3d, Unreal Engine, 3dsmax, Zbrush, Marvelous Designer, Substance Painter, Photoshop, Indesign, and Premiere.  Employer will accept Special Requirements gained through employment experience and/or academic coursework. Telecommuting allowed. Employee may work from anywhere in the U.S.

Duties: The Environment Unreal Artist performs the following design duties:

– Using FX design software to create digital environments and models and assemble scenes for both architectural and organic environments in Unreal Engine;
– Integrate final character animation and/or custom built FX into scenes;
– Design and build digitally cinematic lighting and compose camera moves through scenes.
– Using sculpting Zbrush and other design technology applications to create realistic environmental scenes and characters;
– Use Substance Painter / PBR Texturing workflow experience.
– Scripting and build tools to make pipeline for team efficiency; and
– Create and design workflow between real time game engines to pre-rendered vfx.

Salary Range: $90,000 – $90,000/Year
